Square Enix has announced a partnership with the respected mixed martial arts champion Georges St-Pierre to collaborate on the development of Sleeping Dogs.

The Canadian brawler has reportedly been working with Canadian-based United Front Games on a variety of elements, including combat.

"Working with Square Enix has been an incredible opportunity," said St-Pierre. "I'm really impressed to see how the hand-to-hand combat in the game is shaping up – it's been a great experience being involved."

We hope you like acronyms, because UFC bigshot GSP will be lending the team his MMA know-how and consulting with UFG on an ongoing basis.

"When it comes to professional fighting, names don't get much bigger than GSP," said Square Enix London Studios general manager Lee Singleton. "We are thrilled with the expertise that GSP brings to Sleeping Dogs."

It's unclear exactly what St-Pierre has brought to the combat in Sleeping Dogs, which already pleasingly resembles the Eidos-published Batman: Arkham Asylum in more than a few ways, but the game is shaping up nicely.

Luke is Games Editor at IGN AU.
